Saturday, May 17th, 10:00am James Fairchild: Basics of Bonsai
James Fairchild will discuss the basics of bonsai, with examples of various styles and will repot a tree to show the process of begining a bonsai.
Saturday, May 17th, 2:00pm Sean Smith: Tanuki
Sean Smith will demonstrate the process of combining deadwood and a young tree, carving and shaping the deadwood to create the appearance of great age. Long practiced in Japan, the technique is the subject of a Sunday morning workshop.
Sunday, May 18th, 10:00am Ivan Watters: The Permanent Collection
Ivan Watters, curator of the permanent collection at the Chicago Botanic Garden, will discuss the selection of trees, their development, and their exhibiting of the trees in the courtyards.
